In July, news surfaced that a special version of the Air Jordans 2017 would be releasing for the 2017 NBA All-Star. Surfacing today are the first photos of the sneaker, which has quickly been dubbed the Air Jordan 6 "Chameleon."Originally released in 1991, Michael Jordan wore the 6 en route to his first NBA championship. The year 2000 saw the shoe retroed for the first time, with the introduction of new colorways and Jumpman logos replacing the original "Nike Air" branding. The model was then scaled down in 2002, releasing in low-top form for the first time, along with women’s colorways and sizing. After a couple one-off releases, the Air Jordan 6 Retro got its first full retro run in 2010. For the shoe's 23rd Anniversary in 2014, numerous styles, both old and new, released throughout the year. This year, the low-top is back for the first time since it originally debuted and "Nike Air" will be returning on an original.
The sixth signature shoe of Cheap Air Jordan Shoes, we're taking a look at the lineage of the Air Jordan 6.Proving that we're geniuses here at Sole Collector, it looks like that SNL-themed Jordan 6 may soon become a reality. Early images of a quilted, nylon green pair, similar to Jordan's jacket, just hit the internet. No markings visible in the leaks confirm the inspiration, and flight has been a theme in the line since Day 1, but the connection is there to make. This exclusive grade school-sized pair features an all-pink uppper, and appears to borrow some inspiration from an OG colorway of the Air Jordan 6—Infrared detailing is found on the midsole, heel tab, lace lock, and Jumpman branding on the heel. The pair is finished off with a translucent outsole. Being that these were made especially for May's friends and family, they will likely never see an official retail release, so the best bet to cop a pair may be hoping for one to hit Ebay.
Last summer, we imagined 10 future 2017 Jordans For Sale based on moments from Michael Jordan's life. Among them was an Air Jordan 6 inspired by Jordan's 1991 appearance on Saturday Night Live, specifically drawing cues from the quilted green bomber jacket he wore during his monologue. This fall, Jordan Brand will reference Michael Jordan's longstanding relationship with Gatorade via an Air Jordan 6 "Be Like Mike" sneaker dressed in the colors of that sports drink. While there are a couple different versions of the shoe floating around, it appears that the one pictured here will be the colorway arriving at retail. The sneaker uses the colorblocking of the original "Carmine" Jordan 6, pouring in Gatorade colors. There are more photos floating around that even have the Gatorade lightning bolt logo on the lacelocks and insoles, but it's unclear if Jordan Brand will go that far in making the connection official.
